Time to Treat Yourself

K12prWell is all about imagining a life we want — perhaps healthier, calmer or more balanced — and taking the steps to get there. But as simple as that may sound, habit change is hard work. (And getting a new habit to stick is even harder!)

The key to habit change that lasts is taking small steps and staying consistent — whether you're challenging yourself to create better habits for sleep, lunch breaks, physical activity or anything else. And psychologists have found that rewards can help you stay the course as you build the habit you desire.

What Will Your Treat Be?

This month, think of one habit change you're working on — and then decide on a way to treat yourself as you make progress. Here are a few ideas to you thinking:

  • A new box of tea to enjoy over the weekend

  • New workout item (apparel, equipment, membership, etc.)

  • A fresh set of stickers, pens or cards

  • Unhurried lunch or coffee with a friend

  • A book you've been wanting to read

Match one of these rewards — or anything else! — to your habit change this month, and see how it changes your thinking around accountability and consistency. Tell us when you complete November's challenge, and you'll be entered to win a Starbucks gift card, courtesy of the awesome Smore team.

Update: October Challenge

We've loved hearing the gratitude reflections from October's challenge.

Was your October a bit like a runaway train? We're giving you a few more days!

This Friday, we'll draw a winner for the giant Smore plushie from our friends at Smore. So spend 15 minutes today on a gratitude practice and log your completed challenge!

Today = Sub Plan Time!

There's no better time than now to put together your Emergency Sub Plan. Make sure your district has communications covered when you're out of the office — without managing the emails, texts and calls when you're away.

“I loved this challenge — it was awesome to share
the plans I made with our staff and hear they are
making their own plans, too.”
