K12prWell Truths for You

Yes, February is the month of love and affection. But in the world of school PR, it can feel like yet another round of getting beat up in the arena. If you had a win this Wednesday, please tweet or email us so that we can celebrate with you!

If your Wednesday has felt heavy, here is some love and truth compiled just for you:

  • You matter. Not because of your job or your title. Or if you have a seat at the table. Or who likes you today. You matter because you're a real, caring human on this silly planet called Earth.

  • Your voice matters. You see your school district differently than virtually every other person who works there. Bring that light and perspective to others, even in those moments you wonder if your voice makes a difference. It does.

  • Your work matters. Building trust, hope and connection right now is harder than it used to be — and harder than it should be. Your schools and community are so dang lucky to have you working for their greatest good.

  • Others' words matter. It's normal to feel pain when harsh words are thrown your way. Don't compound the pain by telling yourself that you take things too personally. You care about your schools and the people in them. And you're a person, after all.

  • Your rest matters. The district you serve needs you at your best. (Your loved ones do, too.) Taking care of yourself is the only way to stay in the game and do great work for the long term.

  • Your loved ones matter. Never apologize to anyone for putting your family first. (And "family" is a term you define.)

Through the ups and downs, remember: Your School PR Magic matters.Yes, it's too much a lot of the time. But there is nothing else like the people and work that make up this profession. To do important work with smart and generous people? We are the lucky ones.

Choose kinder inputs

You are bombarded with words and visuals all day long. You can't control all the inputs you get on the job — social media, emails, meetings, texts, phone calls.

But you can (and should!) be picky about selecting inputs that make your free time better — not harder. What content are you taking in? Are you doom scrolling? Here are a few easy follows to brighten up your Twitter feed:
