3 Tips For A K12prWell Summer

The work of high-performing school PR pros (that means you!) doesn't necessarily slow down for summer. Evaluating work from the last year, planning work for next year, and the annual space shuttle launch we call back-to-school — it's time to be intentional about recharging your battery this summer.

And we're sharing three simple tips to help you get started...

#1 Plan your rest

In case you haven't noticed, time off for a vacation doesn't happen unless you schedule it. (And no, staying home sick isn't what we mean by a vacation.)

Check your leave balance, and get some PTO on the calendar. Summer is also the perfect time to finally build that emergency sub plan you've been thinking about!

Scheduling an extra day off for a few weekends over the summer is a simple trick to get away. This keeps your work time consolidated, which tends to be best for concentration and flow. And a longer weekend gives you a much-needed extra breather when schools are closed.

Are there mid-week anniversaries, birthdays or gotcha days this summer? Block out leave time to celebrate away from the office to enjoy some free time with the people you love most. (There is nothing better!)

And whether it's a day, a week or time at the NSPRA Seminar in July, set an out-of-office reply while you're away and commit to not checking email.

#2 Snag your swag

We are loving our new K12prWell goodies — but don't wait to order yours! The sale closes THIS FRIDAY JUNE 10.

The shirts are super soft. The hats are sized to fit anyone. The lanyards are a perfect accessory. The tumblers are amazing. And the magnets will stick on that classy metal furniture you're rocking in the office.

Another big thanks to our volunteer swag sale coordinator Sabrina Kapp and our sale partner DeJa Clift (and family) at The Velvet Bison in Oklahoma.

#3 Enjoy NSPRA

Going to NSPRA Seminar in July? WE ARE! And we are so excited to see faces we haven't seen since the 2019 Seminar in D.C. We'll be sharing more plans in the coming weeks, but these can't wait:

  • Put the #K12PR5K Fun Run/Walk on your list if you're in town Sunday morning! Get your official #K12pr5k shirt and meet in the Sheraton Grand Hotel lobby at 6:30 a.m. All levels of fitness (and seriousness) are always welcome. (Shirt orders are due 6/12! But the shirt isn't required to attend.)

  • Kristin will present Perform Your Best With Healthy Boundaries, one of the most-requested K12prWell sessions since the conversation began back at the 2018 Seminar in Anaheim. We finally created it last fall and have perfected with a few state chapter groups along the way.

  • Shawn will present Calling Ted Lasso: Coach Tips for School PR Pros. There may or may not be a festive procession from Kristin's room to Shawn's room, since the sessions are scheduled back to back on Tuesday afternoon.

  • Attending virtually? Both sessions are included on the virtual conference schedule, as well.

  • The Seminar is full of sessions that support your wellbeing. Make sure you find at least one to put on your must-attend list. You won't regret it!
